Consider…
| Do Focus On | Don’t Focus On |
|---|---|
| Behaviors | Interpretations |
| How that behavior helps you get your job done | “They should…. It’s their job…” |
| Behaviors to keep, too | Only behaviors to change |
| Data (events, environments, situations) | Fault (aka root cause, blame) |
I ask the group to write behaviors they do like (or would like) to see from their managers on sticky notes – one per sticky. Sometimes it takes a while for people to get started.
I ask each person to share their stickies and we affinity group and label the groupings as they go. Often we adjust the groupings and try out several different labels before settling on the final one.
I ask permission to type up the sticky note contents and give it to the manager. I give anyone the opportunity to remove anything they are uncomfortable with first.
Fill in a chart on the wall similar to (this form a new addition to the sessions I run; previously it was more freeform; so far I like this better):
| Behavior Characteristic: | ||
|---|---|---|
| Manager Changes | Team Changes | How we'll notice |
